Main Passage: Leviticus 23:10-14 NKJV

"Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: 'When you come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest. [11] He shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted on your behalf; on the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it. [12] And you shall offer on that day, when you wave the sheaf, a male lamb of the first year, without blemish, as a burnt offering to the LORD. [13] Its grain offering shall be two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil, an offering made by fire to the LORD, for a sweet aroma; and its drink offering shall be of wine, one-fourth of a hin. [14] You shall eat neither bread nor parched grain nor fresh grain until the same day that you have brought an offering to your God; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

1. There is the firstfruit of the offering - verses Leviticus 23:10 - 11

Feast of First Fruits - Yom Habikkurim. Hebrew for Day of Firstfruits

It started the count down of 49 days to “Shavuot” - Pentecost

Sheaf - This was made by taking parts of the harvest of barley from different fields and making a bundle.

Time - the day after the Sabbath following Passover.

This was done on the same day that Jesus rose from the dead.

Jesus is The Firstfruit of the resurrection

1 Corinthians 15:20-23 NKJV

But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. [21] For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. [22] For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. [23] But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming.

James 1:18 NKJV

Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.

Revelation 14:4-5 NKJV

These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being firstfruits to God and to the Lamb. [5] And in their mouth was found no deceit, for they are without fault before the throne of God.

2. A lamb without blemish was to be offered - Leviticus 23:12

John 1:29 NKJV

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

1 John 3:5 NKJV

And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.

1 Peter 2:21-22 NKJV

For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: [22] "Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth";

3. The firstfruit sets the stage for all the harvest that follows

We will have a body like His

Philippians 3:20-21 NKJV

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, [21] who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

We will be resurrected

Romans 8:9-11 NKJV

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. [10] And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. [11] But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

John 6:39-40 NKJV

This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. [40] And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

John 6:43-44 NKJV

Jesus therefore answered and said to them, "Do not murmur among yourselves. [44] No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 6:54 NKJV

Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
